President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov will pay a working visit to Tashkent (Uzbekistan), where he will attend the 16th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, reported on preparations for the visit of the head of state at a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Thursday.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov highlighted that Turkmenistan is currently assuming the chairmanship of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO). In this capacity, Turkmenistan has developed a specialized concept to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation within the ECO. The concept focuses on various areas, including trade, economy, investment, transport, logistics, energy, as well as culture and humanitarian matters. The last Summit of the Organisation was held in Ashgabat on November 28 2021.

The 12th meeting of transport ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organisation member states was conducted in Tashkent on Thursday, UzDaily.uz reports. The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation in trade and transport links, as well as strategies for the development and optimal use of existing transport corridors in the region and the establishment of new routes.

The Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) is a regional interstate economic entity that brings together Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. ECO was founded in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Türkiye. In 1992, Tajikistan joined the ECO.
