Preparations are underway in Turkmenistan for Turkmen Carpet Day, celebrated annually on the last Sunday of May. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Nokerguly Atagulyyev, reported on the upcoming festivities during a government meeting on Saturday, according to official Turkmen state media.
As part of the celebration, a carpet exhibition and displays from the carpet industry will be organized. One of the key events will be a ceremony honoring master weavers who have been awarded the honorary title “Distinguished Carpet Maker of Turkmenistan” in recognition of their significant contribution to the preservation and advancement of traditional craftsmanship.
The 25th session of the World Association of Connoisseurs of Turkmen Carpets is also scheduled to take place. The event will bring together international scholars, experts, and collectors with a shared interest in Turkmenistan’s cultural heritage.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the national art of carpet weaving. He instructed that all events, including the international forum and thematic exhibition, be organized at the highest level.
A number of domestic policy issues were also reviewed during the meeting of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers.
