A cultural and educational event was held in Kyiv on Thursday to mark International Day for Monuments and Sites and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Magtymguly Library Museum. The event was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine and the Magtymguly Library, according to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The celebration was attended by diplomats, library staff, students from Lyceum No. 281, as well as Turkmen youth residing in Ukraine.
The central part of the program featured a presentation titled “The Historical and Cultural Heritage of Turkmenistan: A Journey Through the Landmarks of the Great Silk Road.” Guests learned about ancient trade routes connecting civilizations, the development of Turkmen culture, and monuments listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites — Ancient Merv, Kunya-Urgench, and Nisa. Other historical and cultural reserves of the country were also discussed.
Acting Library Director Yuliya Lopata emphasized the importance of cultural dialogue between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Ukraine. She also expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for donating rare editions and exhibits that reflect the nation’s rich spiritual traditions.
Founded in 1969, the Magtymguly Library has long served as a center for honoring national customs, traditions, and values praised in the works of the wise poet Fragi.
