Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, held a discussion and gave an interview to Ahmet Gormez, the head of the Turkish channel TRT News, on Monday, as reported by Turkmenistan's official media.
Expressing gratitude for the time allocated for the interview, Ahmet Gormez asked, "As a prominent politician and statesman, you consistently emphasize the importance of cooperation among Turkic states. What is the reason for this, and how do you envision such cooperation, its prospects, and Turkmenistan's role in this process?"
"Multifaceted interaction among Turkic nations has historically evolved due to common language, culture, national identity, and interconnected destinies over centuries, as I have repeatedly emphasized. The Turkic peoples share a common root," stated Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Strengthening friendly ties, brotherhood, and mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkic nations represent one of the most promising areas for Turkmenistan's development. As an observer, Turkmenistan actively participates in the activities of the Organization of Turkic States, emphasized the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of the country.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed Turkmenistan's readiness to collaborate with the organization's structural units. Currently, Turkmenistan has applied for membership in the Union of Turkic Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Additionally, efforts are underway to join the Parliamentary Assembly and Turkic Academy.
During the interview, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was asked to share his thoughts on the significance of the Organization of Turkic States in the contemporary international relations system.
"I believe this organization has two but unified goals. I see it as a structure aimed at strengthening close friendship and brotherhood, fostering a tight economic and cultural dialogue between Turkic states based on mutual benefit, and, on the other hand, as the most promising and reliable international partner," said the National Leader of the Turkmen people.
In the course of the conversation, the head of TRT Haber asked Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov about the main goals of the Council of Elders of Organization of Turkic States and his assessment of the current stage in Turkmenistan's life. Ahmet Gormez also requested a brief insight into bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Türkiye.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the main goal of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States is to maintain continuity and scale the remarkable tradition of consulting with representatives of the older generation, guided by their wisdom and extensive life experience.
Responding to questions about the relations between Turkmenistan and Türkiye, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted the active and productive cooperation between the two countries in foreign policy. The National Leader of the Turkmen people also noted that the states mutually support each other in international organizations, and their bilateral trade and economic ties continue to dynamically develop.
