European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas is scheduled to visit Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on January 17, as part of his working visit to five Central Asian countries.

The visit aims to strengthen the partnership between the European Union (EU) and Central Asia, with engagements planned in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, the European Commission reported on Friday.

During his working visit to Ashgabat, the Vice-President of the European Commission is expected to hold meetings with Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.

Margaritis Shinas' visit confirms the growing importance of EU-Central Asia cooperation and opens up opportunities to promote mutually beneficial development.

The working visit of the Vice-President anticipates the 'Global Gateway: Sustainable Transport Connectivity between Europe and Central Asia' Forum scheduled in Brussels on January 29-30, emphasizing sustainable transport links between the two regions.
