President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at their first trilateral summit on Friday in Ashgabat agreed on the need to create new methods and mechanisms for cooperation using the capabilities of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the private sector of their states in an effort to increase trade turnover.

This agreement was enshrined in the Joint Statement of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, adopted at the end of the summit, the official Turkmen media reports.

In the statement, the parties also noted the need for further development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of border trade.

“Such important issues of trilateral cooperation as the expansion of trade and increase in the volume of mutual trade, industrial cooperation, stimulation of partnerships in the field of small and medium-sized businesses, and encouragement of investment activities should not be left aside,” President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov said in his speech at the summit.

The Joint Statement additionally addressed issues of strengthening cooperation within the framework of international organizations, cooperation in the field of energy, logistics and transit, further optimization of tariffs, increase in trade turnover and rational use of water resources of the Amudarya River.
