OSCE Secretary General Looks Forward to Meet Turkmen President

The Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Maria Schmid in her congratulatory message to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the country's independence said she would be honored to meet in Vienna or in Ashgabat to further discuss cooperation.

Helga Maria Schmid also expressed her best wishes to the Turkmen people for good health, happiness, prosperity and security, the official Turkmen media reported on Thursday.

In her congratulatory letter, the Secretary General said, "At a time of constant and urgent challenges to security throughout the OSCE region and beyond, there are also new opportunities for closer interaction. The OSCE stands ready to continue strengthening peace, stability and closer co-operation in Central Asia and the OSCE region.”

The OSCE is the world's largest regional security organization with 57 participating states. Turkmenistan became a member of the organization in 1992.
