Turkmenistan Prepared New National Strategy on Climate Change

Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers Rashid Meredov presented a draft new version of the National Strategy of Turkmenistan on Climate Change to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during the session of the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday.

Turkmenistan’s National Climate Change Strategy was approved by the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan dated June 15, 2012 No. 12366.

The Paris Agreement was adopted at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in France. Turkmenistan ratified this agreement in September 2016.

The new edition of the National Climate Change Strategy of Turkmenistan was developed taking into account the obligations arising from the Paris agreement and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The new strategy provides for the implementation of systemic measures to address the challenges posed in this area, Meredov noted.

The development of the National Climate Change Strategy is of international importance, especially in the context of the upcoming Climate Summit in New York on September 23, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
