Turkmenistan will buy medical helicopters from Russia, according to the information released to the media after the Turkmen government meeting on Friday.

The Turkmen government has reached an agreement with the Kazan Helicopter Plant to purchase Ansat helicopters equipped with medical modules. The document was signed during the First Caspian Economic Forum hosted in Avaza last week.

Tatarstan's Kazan Helicopter Plant proposed Turkmenistan to modernize the country's helicopter park during the visit of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Tatarstan in July 2018. The offer included Ansat helicopters used for medical emergency assistance in hard-to-reach regions.

The fresh deal comes after the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed members of the government to thoroughly study the offer after he was attracted by the Ansat helicopters during his visit to Kazan exhibition of industrial products in Tatarstan on June 23.

Ansat is a multi-purpose helicopter, the first prototype of which flew in 1999; in 2013 it was certified by the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC). The medical modification of this helicopter is widely used in the relevant structures of the Russian Federation. In 2018, an agreement was signed for the supply of 20 Ansat medical helicopters to China.
